Rev. J. Austin Propst

The Reverend J. Austin Propst serves as pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Prior to coming to Redeemer in September 2015, he served with his wife Tanya in the mission field as country coordinators in Madagascar for Young Adults in Global Mission, a division of the ELCA that places college age students in various mission sites for a one-year service of mission. Originally from North Carolina, Pastor Austin is a graduate of Appalachian State University in Boone, NC and Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. Before attending seminary, Pastor Austin was Assistant Program Director at Lutheridge Conference Center and Camp in Arden, NC.



Marcia L. Cooper
Director of Music

CooperMarcia Cooper has served as Director of Music at Redeemer Church since 2006.  Her primary duties at Redeemer include playing the organ and directing the adult choir.  Additionally, she oversees all aspects of the music program at Redeemer, including the handbell choir, soloists, and instrumentalists.  Marcia earned a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts – Organ from Roanoke College in Roanoke, Virginia, and a Master of Music in Ethnomusicology from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio.  She is a member of the American Guild of Organists and the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians.  She has served Lutheran parishes in Tennessee and Virginia and also served with her husband, the late Rev. John J. Cooper, as a Lutheran missionary to Thailand from 1976-1982.  Marcia lives in Blountville, Tennessee, on her family’s farm where she enjoys cooking and summer gardening.

Nursery Attendant

Lauren is a senior majoring in business administration at King University.  She lives in Bristol, VA and has been serving as nursery attendant since 2013.
